Advances in the ISAC Scholar Program: 1st Workshop involving ISAC Scholars
Four young ISAC Scholars gathered in Rome last September to present their work in the 1st ISAC workshop specifically dedicated to ISAC young members. This event was a satellite workshop entitled ”Flow and Image Cytometry in Free-Radical Analysis” in the context of the congress on Movement as Prevention and Health (m-p-h) organized by the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The congress is endorsed and sponsored by all the local administrations (i.e., Regional Council of Lazio, Province and City of Rome).

The event is held at UC Santa Barbara's Integrated Microscopy Facility. For the second time this year the course is co-organized by Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories.
Participants will be using state-of-the art equipment from Olympus, including confocal microscopes, and modern fluorescence microscopes. Other materials include electronic cameras provided by Q-Imaging, image processing and 3D reconstruction software from Media Cybernetics, reagents from Jackson Immunoresearch, and micromanipulators/microinjectors from Eppendorf.
The Advanced Microscopy and Digital Imaging Workshop will take place in Biological Sciences II building, from 13th of November to 17th of November, covering everything from the basics (parts of a microscope), and specimen preparation in fluorescence microscopy to operation of confocal and two-photon systems.
Register today at USCB course web-site. Contact Brian Matsumoto for additional information.

New ISAC Management
As of Today, October 1, 2006 ISAC will be managed by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).
This is an exciting time for ISAC. We have made many changes in response to the concerns of members. We have changed management in order to be more responsive to your needs and to the Societies demands. We have changed the process for selecting congress management and we have listened to members concerns about problems in addressing your concerns.
As of today, ISAC begins a new chapter in its life. FASEB is a highly recognized scientific management organization that is one of the premier management organizations in the USA.
Below you will find the new phone and fax numbers for ISAC and at various places on the ISAC website, you will find the address and contact information. The management of the Society is an important component of our program. It is the single largest cost of the Society and therefore it is crucial that the management organization be able to assist us to implement our programs. The strategic initiatives of the last congress, continue to drive the Society goals and objectives. We look forward to a productive relationship with FASEB and some great opportunities to implement the strategic plan that will move us in the direction necessary to strengthen and grow the Society in a way that in beneficial to all.
