New ISAC President
J. Paul Robinson was installed as ISAC President at the XXIII International Congress in Quebec City May 22, 2006. Dr. Robinson is a professor at Purdue University which has for many years maintained the Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories where the famous cytometry e-mail list server has been operated for over 16 years.
Here is part of a recent interview with Dr Robinson during the XXIII Congress.
What is the most important thing for ISAC at the moment?
Cleary ISAC needs to regain its previously leading position in the world of cytometry technology. We tried to initiate this effort by a ‘no holes barred” attempt at bringing the very best of the worlds leading scientists to our congress this week in Quebec City. A successful congress often stimulates many people to action. ISAC needs that stimulus as it is really the best place for leading edge technology to be showcased
Was the congress successful in your opinion?
Well I was pretty busy running around, but I think it really was successful. Firstly, we had a total of 1410 registered individuals – that’s not only a record for an ISAC meeting, but it means that many people are enthused about the opportunities we have for the future. Secondly, we had such an outstanding array of leading speakers from around the world – Roger Tsien was our Keynote speaker and Roger always brings a sparkle to any meeting and he did so for ours. Having him on the first day of the congress really set a high standard I think.
