The 5th European Course on Clinical Cytometry and the 9th Euroconference on Clinical Cell Analysis joint meeting, to be held in Saint-Etienne, France, on 8-12 September 2009. Both annual meetings are recognized among the most relevant educational meetings for professionals dedicated to the various aspects of clinical cell analysis.
This one day session is designed to appeal to basic and translational scientists in addition to physicians and medical technologists working in the field of flow or image cytometry. The morning will focus primarily on stem cells, their microenvironment, and the mechanisms that affect their survival and differentiation. 2009 Canadian Cytometry Association's Cytometry Symposium

The 2009 Canadian Cytometry Association's Cytometry Symposium will be
held June 18-20, 2009 at the McGill University New Residence Hall,
Montreal, Canada.
The symposium will cover many aspects of flow cytometry, microscopy,
cellular imaging and high content screening. It will include a keynote
lecture, plenary sessions, tutorials, poster session and product
exhibits.
You are encouraged to submit an abstract to present your results as
poster or as a talk. A preliminary program will be available soon on

Flow Cytometry Standard 3.1
The flow cytometry data file standard provides the specifications needed to completely describe flow cytometry data sets within the confines of the file containing the experimental data. In 1984, the first Flow Cytometry Standard format for data files was adopted as FCS1.0. This standard was modified in 1990 as FCS2.0 and again in 1997 as FCS3.0. We report here on the next generation Flow Cytometry Standard data file format. FCS3.1. is a minor revision based on suggested improvements from the community. The principal goal of the Standard continues to be to provide a uniform file format allowing files created by one type of acquisition hardware and software to be analyzed by another type.
We are pleased to announce the Flow Cytometry: Critical Assessment of Population Identification Methods (FlowCAP) project. The goal of FlowCAP is to advance the development of computational methods for the identification of cell populations of interest in flow cytometry data. FlowCAP will provide a means to objectively test these methods, primarily by comparison to manual analysis by experts using common shared data sets, and secondly by comparison to synthetic data sets with known properties. The FlowCAP project is described in more detail in the attached document.
Those able to provide data are asked to contact the organizing committee at flowcap@flowsite.org. We also encourage developers of computational techniques to contact the organizing committee to register their interest in participation.

Representatives from ISAC and CCS have been working on an updated Flow Cytometry CLIA Compliance Manual for members of the two societies. There are extensive changes, particularly in the area of Quality Assessment, and this document should prove useful to flow cytometry laboratories. At the most recent ISAC council meeting, there was unanimous agreement that this document should be made freely available to registered members of ISAC and/or CCS. The Twenty First Annual Clinical Course on Flow & Image Cytometry

The Course takes a practical approach to training participants in clinical flow cytometry using hands-on laboratory and computer work in small groups to supplement lectures. It is taught by distinguished faculty of experts in clinical flow cytometry. Lectures will cover a variety of general and advanced topics and there will be many opportunities for informal discussion. The emphasis of the course will be divided between basic flow theory, current practice in the clinical laboratory, flow cytometric diagnosis of leukemia & lymphoma, and frontiers for the future. The Course will be limited to approximately 45 participants who will attend lectures together and then break into small groups of about eight students to rotate through their choice of seven laboratory modules.

Course Description: A methods course in flow cytometry will be offered with special emphasis on applications in cell biology, immunology and screening. The faculty consists of distinguished members of the flow cytometry community. This course will be aimed toward individuals with several years of experience in flow cytometry; very little basic material will be presented. Each participant will receive extensive lecture notes and laboratory hand-out materials.
ISAC RFP - Open Source Contributions to ISAC Public Flow Cytometry Data Repository
ISAC intends to create a public flow cytometry data repository, with the goal of facilitating verification of analysis of flow cytometry data in published reports, aiding the further development of flow cytometry data analysis software, and enabling the integration of flow cytometry data with other biological databases. ISAC plans to provide open access to the contents of the repository and to the database software (including source code) it will run. To this end, ISAC is soliciting proposals for
software contributions to the repository project.
The 2009 Quantitative Imaging Cytometry Course will be held on February 10, 11, and 12, 2009 at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, New York.

site. To login, you'll have to provide your membership number (ID) and a
password.
In the next few days the current ISAC members will receive an e-mail
containing their membership number and an automatically generated
password. While the password can be changed, the membership number
can't. This number will uniquely identify you for the purposes of web
site login, membership renewal, and voting.
The new system aims to simplify access to the ISAC website, as well as
access to other ISAC internet services, including on-line membership
renewal, polls, and election voting.It also allows you to use the same
number for logging into the web site and for membership renewal, and it
automatically transfers the changes you make to your profile in the ISAC
web site to our membership database.
We have tested the new login process with all popular browsers,
including IE6 and 7, Firefox, and Safari. However, we strongly encourage
you to upgrade to a browser newer than IE6 if you have not already done
so.

Dear ISAC Membership:
Thank you to all who participated in the voting for the ISAC 2008 Council elections. ISAC is fortunate to have so many dedicated individuals willing to donate their time to serving the Society. The candidate list was excellent and I again thank all who were nominated for their willingness to run.
Below are the results of the election. The new Officers and Councilors will officially assume their duties at the conclusion of the May 19th Business Meeting in Budapest Hungary.
