Microarray Technology
Microarrays are revolutionising the way in which we collect, view and interpret data on gene expression, gene copy number and polymorphisms and protein levels in cells. An experiment with a single microarray can provide researchers information on thousands of assays simultaneously - a dramatic increase in throughput. ISAC has supported microaray development in particular with specifc themes and workshops at the biennial Congress.
The array image to the right is a human expression array showing the difference in gene expression (red = upregulated, green = down regulated) between a tumour cell line and a normal reference. The data was produced by students during the 28th Wellcome Trust Advanced Course on Molecular Cytogenetics and DNA Microarrays, 6th - 16th March 2001.
