Flow Sorting Core Technologist, Sr.
The Emory Vaccine Center of Emory University School of Medicine seeks a full time technologist for the flow sorting core laboratory.
The sorting core laboratory currently serves more than 30 investigators with a strong emphasis on basic and translational research on infectious diseases such as Influenza, HIV, HCV, Malaria, TB, and new therapies for cancer. It is equipped with two FACS ARIA cell sorters, each equipped with three lasers, one of which is housed in a BSL-3 Facility.
The successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual and willing to work with multiple researchers. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of flow cytometry including cell sorting, data analysis, data presentation, fluorochromes and optics. Furthermore, a broad knowledge of computer hardware including server maintenance and software is desirable.
JOB DESCRIPTION The successful candidate assists the Flow Sorting Core Facility and supervises laboratory personnel. Provide cell-sorting services to researchers. Part of the cell-sorting services will be performed under BSL3 conditions. Handle routine maintenance of instruments, including troubleshooting and repair of electronics, fluids, lasers, and computer components. Serves as a resource in technical and scientific areas related to scientific consulting services, including experimental design, sample preparation, and protocol development for a diverse array of users from multiple disciplines, including immunology, oncology, biochemistry, hematology, and pathology. Interfaces with equipment field service engineers, and ensures compliance with relevant maintenance contracts. Assists with budgets, prepares billing statements and balances accounts. Perform responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in a biological science, or medical technology, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting. Cell sorting experience using a BD Aria instrument is highly desirable.
Additional Job Details: The successful candidate must be able to function with minimal supervision and have the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students from a range of disciplines in cell biology. Furthermore, candidates must be willing to adjust to flexible working hours.
