Gopal Pande - candidate for Technical Councilor
Dr. Gopal Pande, Ph.D. is working at the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology,
Hyderabad and he has more than two decades of experience in the field of flow
cytometric cell analysis and cell sorting. A cell biologist by training, Dr. Pande has
utilized flow cytometry to understand different functional changes during the mammalian cell cycle and the developmental biology of Dictyostelium discoideum. Dr. Pande has organized and participated in mores than a dozen Courses that have been held in different parts of India and was instrumental in starting a series of Indo-US Flow
Cytometry Workshops along with Dr. Awtar Krishan of the University of Miami. He is the
current President of The Cytometry Society – India (TCS-I) and under his leadership the Society has established an active group of scientists and clinical researchers and
students who are keen to develop further uses of this technique in their respective fields.
The Cytometry Society – India is an international associate of ISAC and it plans to utilize this association to further strengthen links with the ISAC and promote this technology in the South Asia region. As a step towards this objective, TCS-I has started organizing free of cost workshops at the TCS-I members institutions for students and researchers from basic research and clinical backgrounds. Dr. Pande had served on the membership committee of ISAC during 1995 to 1997 and his participation shall prove very useful to increase the membership and activities of the ISAC in this region.
Dr. Pande is also interested in the development of newer instrumentation for more efficient and analytical methodologies for imaging of cells and sub-cellular organelles in flow cytometry. He is also utilizing live cell microscopy techniques for the in situ localization of specific molecules in locomotion related cellular structures such as lamellipodia and filopodia.
