Baylor Institute for Immunology Research, located in Dallas, TX, is seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the position of Research Assistant II in the Flow Cytometry Core Facility.

Under the general oversight of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility Manager, duties will include:

  • Independent operation of flow cytometry instrumentation for analysis and sorting
  • Performing routine maintenance, calibration, quality assurance, and troubleshooting on equipment
  • Understanding common fluorescent reagents, fluorescence measurements and fluorescence compensation
  • Understanding the usual biological applications, cell handling techniques, and reagents used by researchers
  • Familiarity with all software used in the facility
  • Assisting self-operators as necessary
  • Assisting in monthly billing, instrument and computer maintenance
  • Training of new investigators on the use of instrumentation once skills permit.

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education and/or experience in the field will be considered.
  • Basic computing skills using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required including the ability to work in both Macintosh and PC (Windows) environments.
  • Previous experience with CellQuest, FACSDiva, and FlowJo software is desirable but not essential since full training will be offered.
  • Experience with contemporary polychromatic flow cytometry is a plus.

Excellent command of oral and written English language, interpersonal skills, and self-initiative are essential.

The facility houses two FACSCaliburs, one Canto II, one LSR II, one FACSVantage SE, and one FACSAria.

Must be able to work a somewhat flexible schedule to meet the needs of the facility.
