ISAC E-News - Spring 1999

Dear ISAC Member:

This is the first of what is hoped will be a regular series of brief communications to you by e-mail or fax highlighting important news or announcements appearing on the ISAC Web site. This format will replace the printed version of ISAC News, which is expensive to print and mail. It will keep you more up-to-date with what is going on in ISAC. If you do not wish to receive these e-mails or faxes, please let the headquarters office know and your name will be removed from the distribution list. If you do not have Internet access and would like a printed copy of any article faxed or mailed to you, contact the headquarters office.

I would appreciate any comments (good or bad!) from you about this new ISAC benefit, so please e-mail me at npc@sanger.ac.uk.

Nigel Carter, ISAC Secretary

ISAC Adopts New Logo
As you will see if you visit the Web site (http://www.isac-net.org), ISAC now has a new logo. The decision to update the logo was made by the ISAC Council more than 18 months ago, but it has taken all this time to reach a majority agreement on a new design. We hope you like this more modern design.

ISAC Purchases Assets of BioImaging
Effective 5 March, 1999, ISAC concluded negotiations with IOP Publishing Inc. related to its journal, BioImaging. ISAC has purchased the subscriber list, copyrights, trademarks and trade name of BioImaging and has an agreement of non-competition and cooperation with IOP in this regard. BioImaging will cease publication as an independent journal effective immediately and its content will be incorporated into Cytometry. Watch upcoming issues of Cytometry for further information about this exciting development. ISAC and Cytometry's publisher, John Wiley & Sons, will contact current subscribers of BioImaging regarding ISAC membership and Cytometry subscriptions.

1999 ISAC Council Meeting
The 1999 ISAC Council Meeting will be held on Saturday, 5 June, at the O'Hare Hilton next to Chicago's O'Hare Airport. The meeting will start at 08:30 and is expected to finish early Saturday evening. Members are welcome to attend the council meeting as observers at their own expense. If you are attending, please let the headquarters office know by Friday, 22 May, so that an appropriate room and seating can be arranged.

ISAC XX in 2000
Planning for the ISAC XX Congress to be held in Montpellier, France, 20-25 May, 2000, is progressing well. An exhibitor and sponsorship prospectus has been mailed, and members should receive an enhanced datesaver with a preliminary schedule in May. For further information, e-mail the headquarters office at isac@isac-net.org or Scientific Program Chair Lisa Staiano-Coico at lisasc@mail.med.cornell.edu.

ISAC XXII in 2004
We are still looking for a non-U.S. location for the ISAC Congress in 2004. So far, suggestions include The Hague, The Netherlands; The University of York, UK; Kyoto, Japan and Graz, Austria. E-mail suggestions for a location or a local organizing group to ISAC Executive Director Rick Koepke at rkoepke@isac-net.org.

ISAC News Goes Electronic
In the interests of reducing ISAC operating costs, the articles normally found in ISAC News will now be published on the Web site and will no longer be sent by mail to all members. The savings on printing and postage will be considerable. Members will be informed of the publication of newsletter articles by an e-mail or fax that will include the appropriate URL address for the page on the ISAC Web site. Members who would like to continue receiving a hard copy of the newsletter by mail should contact the headquarters office.
