Robert Hooke Distinguished Lecture Commitee

The purpose of the Distinguished Lecture Committee is to select the person to present the Robert Hooke Lecture at the ISAC Congress.

On 4 June 1984, the Council of the Society voted to form a Committee for the purpose of establishing a distinguished lecture series. The first lecture of the series was presented in honor of Paul Mullaney. On 22 March 1990, the Council voted to name the series the Robert Hooke Lectures. The Committee is provided with a 7-point plan as follows:

  • A Committee consisting of the five most recent past-presidents will be created to administer the International Society for Analytical Cytology Distinguished Lecture.
  • The Committee will supply a distinguished lecturer at each Congress of the Society and provide a suitable introduction.
  • Quality and contribution to the field will be emphasized: Membership in ISAC, or the emphasis to be put on it, is left to the Committee's evolving judgment.
  • The budget for this activity will consist of up to a $500 honorarium, waived registration fee and reasonable travel costs for a total budget of under $5,000.
  • The speaker shall be encouraged to submit a manuscript to Cytometry.
  • The Committee will operate independently of the Program Committee but with cross communication to avoid interference.
  • The Committee will consider endowing the process but the meeting will pay costs if another mechanism is not found.
