Biosafety Committee

The purpose of the Biosafety Committee is to provide recommendations and advice on biosafety issues related to analytical cytology. The chair and members of the Biological Safety Committee are appointed by the President subject to approval by Council and serve a single term. The President and President-elect are ex-officio Members of the Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Biosafety Committee addresses the need for collection and dissemination of information on biohazards related to experiments in analytical cytology. This includes sample preparation and the use of flow and image cytometers and maintenance of the "Biosafety Guidelines for Sorting of Unfixed Cells".
  • The Committee will promote education and training in safety issues through workshops and classes at the Congress of the Society and at other times and places where feasible.
  • The Committee will interact on behalf of the Society with regulatory agencies that deal with safety issues, e.g., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the Health Industry Manufacturers Association (HIMA), etc.
