Membership Services Committee

The Membership Services Committee is comprised of six Voting Members. The President and President-elect are ex-officio Members of the Committee. The President appoints three Members to this Committee, with the concurrence of Council and appoints the chair. The appointed Members serve two terms each with three Members taking office at the beginning of each term. The Chair may be appointed for a second term.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and programs to increase Membership retention
  • Develop strategies and find services that will appeal to bringing in new Members into ISAC.
  • Identify what services Members want and need
  • Publicize the goals and objectives of the Society. From time to time, draft appropriate questionnaires and surveys to ascertain Membership needs
  • Consider requests from ISAC Members for financial support to attend ISAC meetings
  • Consider requests from ISAC Members or qualifying Societies for financial support for Member activities or Meetings Ensure appropriate use of the Sociey's pages in Cytometry
  • Annually review requests for complimentary subscription to Cytometry.

Policies

Meeting attendance support - The Membership Services Committee of the International Society for Analytical Cytology will seriously consider requests from ISAC Members for support to attend Congresses in the field of Analytical Cytology. Committee support will consist of:

  • Providing the Member with a list of names and addresses of potential sponsors.
  • Active participation in seeking financial resources from such organizations as the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health.
  • Providing direct financial aid from the Committee budget (currently $6,000 per term). This support will be provided only for special cases where such support is not normally available and strictly on need and merit.

Awards - The MSC preselects the candidates for the Presidential and Exceptional Student Awards and selects the recipients after consideration of the submitted abstract and recommendations and the oral presentation at the Congress. Candidates for the Presidential Award shall be enrolled in a doctoral program at a legitimate college or university or have received a doctoral level degree no more than five years previously. Candidates for the Exceptional Student award shall be enrolled in a doctoral program at a legitimate college or university. The awards will be presented during the Congress and include a cash award of $1000. The budget for these awards has been established by the kind donation of the royalties from the Handbook of Flow Cytometry by the editors of this publication.

The Society will make up to 10 Outstanding Poster Awards at each Congress for posters presented by students, and Post Doctoral researchers who have received their doctorate no more than three years previously. These awards will be presented during the Congress and will include a cash award of $100. Selection of the recipient of the award will be the responsibility of the Membership Services Committee and will be based on content and form. To be eligible, the applicant must apply to be judged. The posters will be judged at the time they are scheduled to be attended by the author. Those posters not attended at their scheduled time will not be included.

Complimentary copies of Cytometry - Complimentary subscriptions to Cytometry are awarded on an annual basis, but with the possibility of renewal. The MSC will be responsible for designing an appropriate application form and for consideration of all applications and to determine who should receive complimentary subscriptions. Application forms will be available from the ISAC Office.

Promotional material - The MSC maintains appropriate promotional material to encourage ISAC Membership.
