v Maintain time books including scheduling vacation and leave.

v Arrange casual staff when necessary

v Interview and provide input for selection of new staff

v Arrange and lead bi-weekly staff meeting

Technical Experience

v Over 18 years of Clinical Flow Cytometric experience with a variety of instruments of both BD and Coulter.

v Developed unique 5-colour off-line analysis protocol. Analysis protocol can be used as an off-line tool, is very rapid and cost effective. This system allows for high volume testing utilising only one instrument.

v Maintain all SOPs to department and national standards

v Monitor and ensure quality control levels are maintained on flow cytometer and ZBI nuclear cell counter.

v Provide assistance and suggestions to all levels of staff, from level one technologists to the Medical Director of the section regarding cost effective ways to perform the phenotyping testing of about 2200 specimens per year.

v Maintain a current working knowledge of technology by performing literature searches, Co-ordinate new and ongoing research projects with investigators

Operational Experience

v Work closely with the Business Affairs Leader, in preparing yearly budget, including staffing, equipment and consumable costing.

v Develop phenotype panels when new products become available. In particular for products that will aid in the diagnosis and prognosis in lymphoma and certain leukaemia.

v Co-chair the safety meetings for the Dept. of Laboratory Medicine and perform routine safety inspections.

v Interacts with referring physicians regarding interpretation of laboratory results.

v Prepare specimens for labelling from bone marrow’s, to a varity of tissue samples, i.e. lymphnode to skin biopsies.

v Monitor the daily quality control; correct settings like fluorerescense amplification and compensation of the flowcytometer.

v Maintenance of human cell line, which is a control for TdT cytoplasmic test.

v Responsible for ordering all supplies.

v Interaction with referring hospital staff to ensure correct shipping of specimens.

Professional Experience

1982-1985

Research Technologist T3

Division of Immunology,

Department of Pediatrics, UBC.

4480 Oak St.

Vancouver BC

Department Head : Dr A.J Tingle

Conducted research concerning Rubella Virus Associated Arthritis.

These investigations involved the development, production and characterisation of Hybridoma cell lines against Rubella virus.

The development of an ELISA based test system, which was used to measure the immune response for Rubella virus in human serum.

1978-1982

Research Technologist

Department of Immunology,

University Children’s Hospital

Utrecht, the Netherlands

Department head:

Prof. Dr. R.E. Ballieux

Characterization of regulatory functions of human T cells factors in an in vitro test system. This involved a large array of techniques include protein purification with affinity columns, radioisotope labeling of T-cells factors and a number of human cell culture techniques.

1975 –1978

Research Immunology Technologist

Department of Clinical Immunology of a Regional Hospital;

De Lichtenberg,

Amesfoort, The Netherlands

Department head: Dr.J.A.M. Kerkhaert

Worked in a hospital laboratory environment, performing tasks included antibody level measuring, in vitro testing of human cellular response. Immuno fluorescene based testing on tissue sections for autoimmune antibodies.

Additional Skills

Trained and have years of experience with several flowcytometers, like the BD analyzer, Coulters Epic-C, Elite, Profile, XL, and currently the FC 500 analyzer.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, in particular, Excel which is used to generate complex protocols to analyze the large number of data in flow-phenotyping.

Using a third party software; Winlist version 5.0 from Verity House Software created a semi automated analysis system to immunophenotype specimens with hematopoietic disease. Combined with Microsoft Excel, this system results in a very rapid and unique analysis of flowcytometric data.

A broad based cell culture experience, from production of mouse monoclonal antibodies of hybridoma cell lines, to complex human cell cultures in a variety of research projects.

Production of Rubella virus and development of novice ELISA testing system for anti Rubella human antibodies

Molecular DNA techniques like southern blotting and DNA extraction of human cells.
