Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to extend a cordial invitation to all members and colleagues of International Federation for Cell Biology to participate in the 9th International Congress on Cell Biology to be convened during October 7~10, 2008 in Seoul, Korea.
This Conference functions as a critical forum as all participants have ample opportunity to attend Scientific Sessions either in delivering paper presentations or listening to a number of outstanding key messages and invited lectures.
The Organizing Committee is also planning unique and colorful social programs through which all participants enjoy fascinating Korean culture and the warm Korean spirit of friendship. The participants may have special experiences in the beautiful autum of Korea.
Cordially,
Hun-Taeg Chung, M.D. Ph.D.
Chairman, Organizing Committee |

Microscopic Image Analysis with Applications in Biology
The automatic analysis of microscope imagery plays
an increasingly important role in biosciences
research. Novel imaging devices such as the confocal
and two photon (or multi-photon) electron
microscope, automated stages for electron
microscopy, and higher resolution electron
tomography enable researchers to image biological
systems at the cellular and sub-cellular
scale. These datasets pose a number of challenges
that are very distinct from conventional clinical
imagery in their size and abundance, the detail of
relevant features and their
statistics. Sophisticated algorithms are necessary
to process such imagery and extract biologically
relevant features and information. The design,
development and application of such algorithms are
the focus of this workshop.
The first international
workshop on Microscopic Image Analysis with Applications in Biology,
MIAAB 2006 was held in conjuction with MICCAI 2006. Based on the strong interest and high
quality of the submissions we decided to hold this workshop
as an independent one day event in 2007. Biological datasets pose a number of
challenges that are very distinct from conventional clinical imagery
in their size and abundance, the detail of relevant features and their
statistics. Sophisticated algorithms are necessary to process such
imagery and extract biologically relevant features and information. |

Northeast Regional Life Sciences Core Directors Meeting
November 9-10, 2006
Cornell University
Ithaca, NY
You are invited to attend the first annual Northeast Regional Life Sciences Core Directors (NERLSCD) meeting, November 9-10, 2006, on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY. This will be a networking meeting for core directors and managers in the Northeast. The conference will provide an opportunity for core facility directors and managers to meet colleagues, to share technical advice, and to discuss the challenges and results of implementing shared research resources and technologies.
There will be an evening reception on Thursday, Nov. 9th, and an all day meeting on Friday, Nov. 10th. The morning agenda will consist of presentations on topics relevant to all core directors and managers. The afternoon agenda will have technology focused breakout sessions, each lead by a panel of experts, in which topics of interest will be discussed in a workshop setting among core directors and managers offering similar services. There will be workshop discussion sessions on DNA Sequencing and Genotyping, Microarrays, Real-time PCR, Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry, Protein Production and Characterization, Flow Cytometry, Optical Imaging, and Bioinformatics and Bio-IT.
The meeting will include a poster session. All attendees are encouraged to submit a poster abstract. The purpose of this session is to provide a chance for core facility directors to present posters describing the activities and services their individual cores provide and to view what core services are available at neighboring institutions.
The poster abstract submission deadline is October 27, 2006. Abstracts should be submitted after registering for the meeting. In addition to the poster abstract, participants are encouraged to submit their full poster presentation in pdf format so that they can be included in a CD which will be distributed at the meeting. Submission of the poster pdf files does not need to be done at the same time as submission of poster abstracts. The deadline for submission of poster pdf files is November 3, 2006.
The meeting registration deadline is October 27, 2006. Registration to this meeting WILL BE LIMITED so please register early! |
